Modern homes are beautiful homes. Not only do they exhibit top-notch architecture and design qualities, but they also play with the boundaries and include high-quality appliances and technological advancements. It's amazing that one piece of architecture, a family home, can include so much – but this is why they're wonderful!

We believe there are eight essential items and features that all modern homes in Malaysia should have, and we've listed them below so you can see how many you can either check off, or think about adding to your home…

Bold bedroom furniture

Bedrooms are by-far one of the most used and lived-in areas of any home. They're also typically a favourite room because of the privacy and sense of personality they can convey. Bold bedroom furnishings are something that modern homeowners take very seriously, and no stone is left unturned when it comes to the interior design.

This bedroom has a mix of materials that are all modern, from hardwood floors to an array of wood grains on the ceiling and even a concrete accent wall.  The minimalist lighting and accessories also play an important part here, too!

A space-age study

When we think of space-age studies, we think of modern, mid-century furnishings and a clean environment.

If you're looking to make your study clean, organised and fabulous then look no further than mid-century Danish furniture and accessories and, of course, a light fixture over a reading nook or a sleek Scandinavian desk.

Movie prop-style showers

A clean bathroom is an efficient and beautiful bathroom. With a modern interior and high-end appliances, you can easily achieve that look. This large-scale tub is perfect for relaxing in the evening, and also comes with a shower head fixture for those moments when you need to get a move on.

The rustic-style tiles, concrete walls and long, dramatic drapes have created a perfect industrial-style, chic space.

Unusual hallway furniture

Hallways, entryways and corridors are spaces often left to the side and forgotten about when it comes to furnishings and accessories. It makes perfect sense, as we tend to experience these areas quickly, and in a transient manner.

However, modern homes exist in the details, and playing with your hallways is a part of this concept.  Don't forget interesting accent table and lamps and floor runners and lighting fixtures that are just as sleek and modern as the home itself.

A unique dining room table

Communal areas need to be just that – areas where a sense of belonging and community is created either for your family, or for guests.

A unique dining room table is exactly what is pictured here and the clever use of a bright blue colour scheme, strategic symmetrical design, accent chairs and a dining room table set make this dining room one of the best we've seen in a while. Remember, a great colour scheme can be the best starting point for any design project.

A sharp, futuristic kitchen

What everyone looks forward to in modern homes is the kitchen – whether it be the high-end appliances and proper wine storage, or touch-free technology for cleanliness and hygiene – there seems to be technological surprises everywhere.

A modern, lavish living room

Think large-scale and statement piece if you're going for a modern and lavish living room. Open the windows, include dramatic floor-to-ceiling drapery and work with high-end furnishings and decor that will be timeless for decades to come. This living room perfectly combines bold and neutral elements!

A contemporary, cool children's room

Lastly, a cool children's room is another aspect to consider. Why spend so much time trying to design a perfectly modern home and leave the children's room out? There is no point in a wonderful design theme if parts of your home are left neglected and shabby.

As seen here, combining contemporary and cool, yet fun, elements to your nursery or children's room can result in a very cool look.

If you're looking to get a modern home, we suggest you slowly work step-by-step and try to incorporate these elements into your home. Before you know it, you'll have a modern and futuristic home worth bragging about!
