Everyone seeks a home that is spacious and comfortable. This Bangalore home is situated in Sarjapur, with vacant land around it. Its design features rooms that are quiet, vibrant, and energising. The designers of Ideation in Bangalore have designed it to provide private spaces as well as areas for socialisation and hosting visitors. Pillar-less car porches, high ceilings, private balconies, a well-landscaped garden and a cosy split-level terrace for entertaining make this home unique and desirable.
The home is situated in a reasonably unoccupied area, but it has been designed considering the form and footprint of future structures in the nearby plots. Since it faces the west, the harsh afternoon sun makes a significant impact on the design. A limited number of openings and windows reduce the sun’s effect to a great extent. To compensate for it, the designers have used the front of the home to provide natural light and ventilation.
The balcony at the split-level between the ground floor and the first floor allows the natural light and air to seep into the beautiful home. It becomes an anchor, as the garden connects the outside to the inside. The terracotta Jhali-blocks are an ingenious addition to the design. They combine well with the open and closed skylights to make it a perfect retreat for morning coffee or a lazy afternoon nap, under the open-to-sky cutouts that provide a view of the sky.
The granite floor, planters on the side, and the combination of brick and concrete create a beautiful symphony at the home’s entrance.
Artificial lighting enhances the natural beauty of the home’s facade. Focus lights create lovely shadows on the brick wall. They play second fiddle to the soft lights that beautify the jali-work near the entrance. A corner-slit window in the façade creates a playful path of sunlight in the area throughout the day.
The materials and the colour palette of the house are simple and modest. The rawness of the exposed concrete works with the rustic look of the bricks, making the living area calm, natural and earthy.
Simple designs are endearing and attractive. For instance, the designers have chosen to leave the underside of the staircase exposed. It provides an unfinished look that is attractive and unusual.
A small column with cladding greets us when we walk through the door. The Chevron pattern is not bold, but it catches the eye as it creates a mellow contrast that is warm and inviting.
This is an ideal place for energising oneself. The patterned floor tiles break the monotony of the brick and concrete. The rustic design of the chair and the antique table make the seating area cosy. Planters and potted plants complete the look.
The kitchen holds pride of place in the home. The combination of rustic wood with modern white cabinets is functional and stylish, perfectly complementing the rest of the house.
