It’s a dream to have a beautiful home inside outside. What we see from outside is the first impression. It prepares us for what to expect when inside the house. While designing the home, elevation is important for the look, feel, interior and the beauty of the house. Have a look at some beautiful home elevation design from front, side, rear and split and do your homework before meeting your architect.

Front elevation

Morning shows the day! That’s what the front elevation does. The front elevation is the scenic design that is seen from the front of the home. It’s the drawing or design of the entire home with measurements written on it. The home plan is seen best from the front elevation. It’s like seeing a home from the front or the entry level, perfectly centred and viewing it from the same height as the home. What we usually see from the front is the main gate, entry door, windows at the front, portico, or any other part of the home protruding from it like the chimneys and side balcony. However, side walls are not visible unless it is strategically build so to make it visible from the front.

Side elevation

Side elevation of the home is same as the front with difference being that it is viewed from the sides, right or left. Architects label it as ‘Right side elevation and Left side elevation’ to avoid any confusion. Side elevation is useful when showing the windows and other features of the home. Basically it shows and gives a clear idea of the depth of the house. Side views also help the contractors building the house to get an idea of the size and depth of the balcony and portico in the front and back of the house in relation to the home as a whole. The steepness of roof also becomes clear in side elevation.

Split elevation

Split elevation is a kind of side elevation. Basically it is the view of the home’s interior in which an imaginary line splits the home in two either from the middle or any other part from which the architect, contractors and the home owner will get a clearer picture of the home. Split elevation makes the picture of interior features, height, floor thickness, wall thickness, the rise of staircase clearer by showing it in details.

Rear elevation

Every side of the home is important, even the back. Rear elevation shows the back plan of the home, again from the straight angle. Like the front and side plan, the notes attached to the rear drawings also includes the features which can’t be seen from the straight view, materials to be used for different parts of the home, like the materials for doors and windows, coating materials, exterior insulation, aesthetic touch, etc.

Top elevation

Home is where the heart is! There are some people for whom their home is a symphony and they want it to look amazingly beautiful even from the top. Top elevation is the bird’s eye view of the home as seen from the top. It show the details of the terrace and gardens around the house.
