People nowadays are so focused on work and rarely have time to take care of themselves, and everyone needs a little pampering from time to time. But because our lives are so hectic, it's hard to take time away and go on retreat, even if it's just for the afternoon. So why not create your own little oasis right at home?

If you love to relax and indulge in all of life's pleasures, then an at-home spa is the perfect thing for you! Of course we realize that spas themselves are quite pricey, which is why we've gathered a few ideas together so you can get that expensive spa feeling at home on a budget.

Each one of these ideas is suitable for any home, no matter what the design–whether you have a sizable or rather small bathroom, these tips will enhance your senses and help you unwind, giving you that ultimate spa experience right at home.

1. Deep soaking tub

What's the one thing all spas have? A deep tub that you can soak in for hours. Even if you have a smaller bathroom, you can still soak away your troubles with ease. Many manufacturers create tubs that are smaller in width, but are deep enough for you to comfortably spend the afternoon soaking in.

To bump this feeling up a notch, opt for a tub with jet streams for a massaging and profoundly relaxing experience.

2. Clear toiletry clutter

Another thing that's always absent in a spa that may be an unfortunate factor in your life is clutter. Clutter in any room of the home makes us anxious and only wanting to clean, and since we're trying to get the most calming atmosphere possible, toiletry clutter in the bathroom is an absolute no-no.

There is a simple but effective fix, however. Just purchase a few woven baskets so you can store your odds and ends, and slide them into any unnoticeable space. Out of sight, and out of mind–now you can relax!

3. Get a massaging shower head

If you don't have the option to buy a tub, or just prefer showers in general, then you're definitely going to want to get a massaging shower head.

Best thing is, they're super cheap compared to buying a new tub, and most come with a minimum of five different settings, so you can customise your relaxation each and every time you shower.

4. Opt for an earthy palette

Nothing is more calming and centering than being in nature, and that's exactly why the most popular spas always have natural elements incorporated into their rooms.

Opting for an earthy palette alone will definitely let you achieve this goal, but adding natural accents like wood, stone, or a few plants will also take your bathroom from ordinary to extraordinary.

5. Dim the lights

Lighting can make or break the ambience of a room, and that's especially true when you're aiming for a calming atmosphere. So for a super romantic and tranquil space, consider installing ceiling lights that come with dimmer controls. With dimmed lights, you really get that serene spa feeling while you're soaking in the tub.

Because light installation involves a lot of complex wiring, you should definitely leave this job to the professionals It will save you time and money in the long run when you don't have to worry about doing it yourself or improper installation.

6. Incorporate candles

As we've already mentioned, lighting affects the ambience of the room you're in. So after installing dimmer switches, or in place of entirely, incorporate some candles for an even more relaxing atmosphere.

Scented candles are a plus, or you could have a mix of ordinary candles with oil diffusers. These scents will rejuvenate your mind, body, and soul with just the strike of a match. You could even get some floating candles for that real spa experience.

7. Relax with some soothing music

To take relaxation up a notch, bring in a few waterproof speakers and play some calming music while you soak. This will not only help you unwind from your daily stresses, it will also help to drown out any background noise you might hear while you're trying to escape from reality.

Create a soothing, meditative playlist and let your ears take you to cloud nine.

8. Add some pampering touches

Our last piece of advice is for those of you who really want to recreate that spa-like atmosphere at home. Nothing will make you feel more pampered than adding rose petals to your bath. And if you really want to spoil yourself, add a few drops of essential oils to your bath for a relaxing, deep cleaning, spirit lifting experience. Lavender or chamomile are the best fragrances for this.

Any one of these ideas alone will help boost that spa-like feeling in your bathroom, but if you can get a combination of all eight, well… you certainly know how to pamper yourself!
