It can be hard to take holistic approach to planning a home’s décor; each room has its own specific requirements and unique furnishings, besides, a little diversity is nice. However, it’s important that the different areas of the home coordinate to some extent in order to have a coherent and flowing home.

The extensive planning involved in coordinating the look of your entire home can seem a little overwhelming, so we’ve put together a few tips that’ll hopefully make the process a little easier, and help you to achieve a unified vision for your home.

1. Pick a theme

A simple and extremely effective way to achieve a coordinated home is to pick one, unifying theme, and to base all subsequent interior design decisions around conforming to that theme. The theme could be broad with room for variation, such as minimalism, or more specific like the strong, rustic style pictured above.

2. choose similar artworks to feature throughout

If your heart is set on different styles for different rooms this could be the approach for you. However disparate different areas of the home may appear, choosing similar art pieces throughout the home will help tie the rooms to together and create a more coherent and flowing home.

3. use a selection of four colours

Be careful not to be too eclectic with your colour schemes, and use a selection of just four colours throughout your home for more consistency and coordination. This can be done subtly, or to create a bold, unified look for the entire home such as the living room above that blends black, white and different greys throughout the whole home. If in doubt, get some professional advice.

4. Repeat accents

The devil is in the details – coordinating pillows, curtains and accessories throughout the home may seem minor, but can make a big impact to the home’s overall feel. In the above example, we can that this has been extended to include the artwork that matches the colours of the sofa, pillows and candles.

5. Stick to the same tone of wood

Different tones of wood can have different effects, and each style and colour can have its own place in the home. However, be aware that clashing wooden tones can create disparity between rooms so stick to one tone for a coherent and flowing home.
